Refocusing on Gratitude to Navigate Change

As we find ourselves navigating the aftermath of the election, I have tried to focus on what unites us rather than divides us. Certainly, we are united in a deluge of emotions - from hope, to fear, to optimism, to uncertainty, resilience, and even weariness. In times like these, it’s easy to get swept away by the larger uncertainties and challenges looming ahead. This isn’t a post about who is right, wrong, winners or losers – but an opportunity to refocus on what we can control in a world that feel so uncertain.
I was listening to a favorite playlist while walking on a trail near my home today and was struck by the song Blessings by Hollow Coves. What a timely reminder to pause, breathe, and savor the beautiful simplicity that life offers, even when the world feels uncertain.
Blessings gently urges us to refocus on what we can control: celebrating the small moments that bring us peace and anchoring ourselves in gratitude for the gifts we have. The lyrics reflect on “the little things in life,” encouraging us to hold close the daily experiences and people who lift us up. These small joys—whether it’s a shared cup of coffee, a walk in nature, a heartfelt laugh with a friend, or simply having a quiet moment to reflect—remind us that there is a deeper, quieter strength found in simplicity and faith. And that strength, often found in gratitude, serves as a powerful antidote to fear. Faith and fear can't coexist in the same space.
While it’s natural to feel uncertain about what lies ahead, Blessings resonates with the belief that embracing life’s simple pleasures can fill us with resilience. In the song, there’s a deep appreciation for “the sun on my skin” and “a cool breeze”—words that ground us in the present, reminding us that while the world may shift and change, these small constants are always there to center us.
For me this message of gratitude doesn’t ask us to ignore challenges or to minimize our concerns. Instead, it suggests that by focusing on what we have—good health, friends, family, and the freedom to find ourselves—we equip ourselves to face these uncertainties with courage and clarity. It’s in these moments of appreciation that we rediscover our purpose and values, giving us the strength to meet whatever comes next. And as many of us may feel the urge to seek grand answers or chase certainty, this song reminded me that peace is often found not in understanding the future but trusting He who holds the future. but in cherishing the present. Every small blessing we acknowledge becomes a stone in the foundation of our resilience.
As we each grapple with the fear of unknowns or previously proven paths, I am going to push through and keep reminding myself to live in faith and celebrate life’s quiet blessings. I invite you to join me and work to build a brighter path forward by filling our days with gratitude for the things we hold dear—health, friendship, and the quiet, unchanging beauty of life itself. In these moments, we find strength, resilience, and perhaps even a little hope to navigate what comes next.
